Android Device Manager review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

One of many apps that allow tracking a lost or stolen device. It’s by far the easiest way to find, block or delete all data from your smartphone wherever it is.

Interface 5/5

Google Find My Device (Android Device Manager) provides a simple and intuitive interface. The first thing the app will ask you, is to enable location permissions. Enabling those assures that your device will be always tracked if needed.  There’s no complicated menus or sections. UI consists of a rectangle area with a map from edge to edge and phone settings in the lower part of the screen. Clicking three dots in the upper right corner allows you to change an account and rename device. As simple as can be.

Content and Features 5/5

Thanks to integration with Google services, Find My Device provides some exclusive features that can’t be found in other apps. First of all, it’s detailed and accurate maps by Google. Service will show where the device was located the last time it was connected to GPS or Wi-Fi. You can also see the name of W-Fi network as well as battery level. After that you get 3 options: Play sound, secure and erase. First two let you find your phone if it’s nearby and lock it. The third one completely deletes all your files from the smartphone.

Usability 5/5

The app is pretty straight-forward and guides you from the moment you open it until you find your phone. However, the first time you download it, you’ll need to sign in with your Google Account that is associated with your device. On the next screen, the first thing you’ll see is going to be a map with your location and Lock & Erase options. Those can be easily enabled with a single tap. Also, there’s a Play Sound function available that will immediately make your phone ring. All listed features are extremely useful especially because they work via GPS. That way you can find your phone even when there’s no Internet connection nearby it. You’ll have to keep location services enabled though. Once your device is lost just access the Find My Device simple website, and you’re good to go. Service works flawlessly, and all the important and private data on a smartphone can be deleted in less than a second.

Compatibility 4/5

The app is compatible with all Android devices 4.0 and up. No matter if it’s a phone or tablet, you can easily locate it on the map. Since service was designed exclusively for Android devices, it’s illogical to say that crossplatformity is a weak spot here. Although it’s not available as an app for iOS, you can still effectively use these features from your iPhone, iPad or Mac when signing into Google account.

The Bottom Line

Google Find My Device is a secure service for finding, locking and erasing data from the lost smartphone. Its features work flawlessly on any device, and the UI is so simple that you won’t lose a minute when an unforeseen situation will appear. In order for it to work properly though you have to prepare your phone. Location services may be consuming when it comes to battery drainage, but those should be better always enabled if you want to find your device quickly.
