FREE Office: PlanMaker Mobile review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

Office: PlanMaker Mobile is a completely free app to work with Microsoft Excel worksheets. All main functions including formulas and data are available right from the screen of your Android smartphone or tablet. Information is displayed the same way as on the PC, which makes it a great assistant if you work with Excel a lot.

Interface 4/5

The interface is clean and easy-to-understand. The main information is provided in form of arranged menus. Those can be accessed by tapping on standard three dots at the very right of the screen. At the bottom, right below the document can be found the main toolbar with most commonly used commands. If the toolbar is wider than the phone’s screen, then a simple swipe will show the rest of it. The whole interface is pretty simple for inexperienced users and gives a good example of how worksheets should look on a smartphone.

Content and features 4/5

If you’re working with mathematical or statistical data, then you’ll be more than happy to find out that app supports around 330 calculation formulas. These include the basic Excel functions like DATE, IF, TIME, SUM as well as some more complicated statistical and financial variants. To ease your work even more different number formatting is available depending on your needs: default, accounting, scientific, numeric, etc. Character formatting is also supported and includes bold, italic, underlined and many other options.

Usability 5/5

The opportunities which this app opens for work are impressive. You can edit any worksheet using your computer, then send it to PlanMaker and finish it anywhere you want. All functions and formatting stay intact and can be later exported back to PC. That way you can be sure that you’ll have access to your data whenever your devices are somewhere nearby.

Office: PlanMaker Mobile is useful for analyzing big amounts of data, writing complicated formulas and building intuitive charts. Charts are not just boringly static but dynamically change whenever new data is introduced.  Every spreadsheet has classic cells and columns that can be edited by simply clicking on them. Those can also be edited and deleted simply as well as supplemented with comments.

When the work is done, it’s time to save your progress. One thing that many apps in this field miss is a convenient exporting option. PlanMaker Mobile allows you to save your worksheets to PDF, HTML, XLSX, XLS and send them directly to e-mail or cloud service.

Compatibility 3/5

To assess the compatibility of any spreadsheet, it is important to find out which file formats it supports. PlanMaker Mobile has a solid grip here as it supports all possible Microsoft Excel formats (XLS, XLT, XLSX, XLTX, XLSM, XLTM), CSV, SYLK, RTF, DIF, HTML and dBASE. However, the app is available only on Android which makes it impossible to download if you have an iPhone or iPad. That’s definitely a big minus as crossplatformity is essential for people who have to transfer large amounts of data.

The Bottom Line

FREE Office: PlanMaker Mobile is a decent app to work with worksheets from your Android device. No matter if it’s a tablet with a high-resolution screen or old smartphone, the app looks great and convenient on both of them. The main functions are not different from those present in the desktop version of Excel, which makes this app a great assistant for daily use and work. For a free app, PlanMaker Mobile does more than you could wish for and is probably of the most advanced spreadsheets on the market.
